Plyometrics Workshop

Join MIJO Sport for an informative and practical workshop on Plyometrics training. Workshop is Saturday November 19th  1-2:30pm at the Oak Bay Rec Centre. Register through Oak Bay Rec, just $25 for the workshop!

This workshop is perfect for trainers, group fitness instructors or fitness enthusiasts that would like to incorporate plyometrics into their program planning. A certificate is given at the end and the course is worth 1.5 BCRPA CEC’s.

Island Fitness Conference

Join us November 5th in Victoria, BC for the Island Fitness Conference! We are happy to announce that we will be presenting a session called ‘The Anatomy of Combat Moves’ that covers the essentials of how to add correct punching and kicking to workouts and programs. Trainers, group fitness intructors and fitness enthusiasts can all benefit from this session as it will include theory, technical breakdown, and exciting sample drills.

Back to School, Back to Routine, Back to Fitness!

For many of you it’s back to school time for your kids, which means that life returns to a somewhat regular schedule again. This is the perfect time to reassess you and your family’s fitness needs.

Whether you have children or not, fall is an excellent time to try new things and get your fitness routine back on track. Public recreation facilities are an excellent place to find exciting new programs to try at very reasonable rates; MIJO Sport has programs at recreation facilities in Sooke, Colwood, Oak Bay, Comox and Courtenay. Typically you can register for 6, 8 or 12 week sessions, with no contracts and no lengthy committments necessary. This allows you or your kids the opportunity to see if you really like the activity without any pressure.

If you are new to fitness, or returning after some time away from it, try not to overdo it in the beginning; commit to being active 3-4 days per week for 30-40 minutes at time. Easing into it this way will increase your chance of creating a new fitness habit (which on average can take up to 10 weeks) and improve your chances of success!

It’s Almost that Time Again… Goodbye Summer and Hello Fall!


With August flying by, we are quickly drawing a close to summer, which means it’s time to start considering fall activities. Fall is an excellent time to set new fitness goals, try new classes and perhaps for many of us, get back on the nutrition band wagon!!

Setting goals is very important no matter what fitness level you are, as having a clear and concise endpoint allows you to structure your training appropriately. Just be sure to keep the goals specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and on a timeline (‘SMART’)…. set short (1-4month) goals and long term goals (4-12month), and don’t be discouraged if you have setbacks along the way, as we all do at some point!

MIJO Sport has some excellent options and tools that will help you along your health and wellness journey this Fall.
